BLOGTASTIC: Blogging is highly personal
Blogging is personal, and you have to get comfortable with that mindset. Your audience will expect to learn about your personality through your blog. Every blog post will have content and emotions associated with it.
Look at your last few posts and consider the following two questions:
• Do these posts represent you?
• Do they show who you really are?
The answer to both the questions have to a resourcing “Yes!”
Sharing yourself on the blog is NOT only the right thing to do but it is also what your readers enjoy most. When I look back at my blog posts, I can clearly say that readers were most engaged when I shared myself more. When I talked about my trials and tribulations, my successes and failures, my hopes and dreams, my experiments and my learning from these experiments were well received.
Writing a blog post and a book are very different but they share something in common too.
When you write a book, you will probably spend a year or more on the project. You’ll spend months writing the drafts, polishing the stories, and getting feedback from trusted friends. It’s inevitable that you will embed your personality into the book.
A blog offers you an opportunity to share short insights and ideas every day. However, you’ll rarely spend days polishing any single blog post. However, there is still some “You” that is inserted in this blog post.
Think about it. Your blog post begins with an idea. So, you sit at your computer and quickly type a few lines of text. The entire process takes just a few minutes from start to finish. You’ve only invested a small slice of yourself into the writing. You’ll post and move on, often without looking back.
Before you press the “Publish” button next time, stop and think for a second to see whether you are inserting some of “You” into the blog post. That’s what makes the blog post really unique. Bring out your personality in each of your posts. Share something with your readership. Show people that you are a real human with a personality.
And, have fun!
