BLOGTASTIC!: Help others succeed first.

You likely want to succeed in your blogging initiatives. Guess what? Other bloggers want the same results. If everyone thinks that only they should succeed, then it will be hard work for everyone. We’d be competing so hard against each other that no one would win.

What is the #1 gift that you can give to a new blogger?

• It is not money.
• It is not a pat on his or her back.
• It is certainly not a motivating speech to get them to continue their journey.

It is a link that counts!

It is one more person that you can take their message too.

It is one more comment that you can share to enhance the value of their blog post.

If you like a post on someone’s blog, and you can relate to it within your own world, then please be generous. Make a relevant link to that blog. A good link simply means an endorsement of that content on the blog. More importantly, it endorses that blogger.

You don’t have to promote other blogs blatantly. A little bit of “link love” will go a long way.

As a blogger, I am sure you want to receive links as well. However, expecting a reciprocal link may disappoint you. That’s not how blog links work. Someone won’t link back to you just because you linked to them.

The etiquette is really pretty simple. You should link to link-worthy content on their site. Your quality readers will also link to link-worthy content on your site. Remember, everything is subjective. What one person finds link-worthy may not catch someone else’s attention.

Focus on creating link-worthy content, and your readers will link to you.

Your blog has power. How can you use it today to help someone succeed within the blogosphere or outside?

Blogging Tip: You give some and then you get some–in that order

Linking is voluntary. You should never link with the implicit expectation that the other person will link back. Link exchanges rarely work. Why? Links from people who rely on link exchange alones probably are not worth much anyway.

Remember that I didn’t say “you get some and you give some”. The order is important. Giving always comes first.
