Conor: Thanks for the kind words. A few months ago a friend called, excited about the product he was about to launch. Because I had some relevant and disappointing experience with a similar product, I shared some caution with my friend. It was difficult to do because #1) I could definitely be wrong, #2) I want to encourage people, not discourage them. But my experience told me their was trouble ahead for this product. So, I told the truth as I knew it, hoping the friend would not be angry. He wasn't and I was relieved. I had done the right thing and it was appreciated.

Agreed, Conor! I loved this article by Jack, too - The simplicity of his message "Got" me & the 2 important reminders he gives at the end of the article are absolute gems! Thanks, Jack!

Great post. There are so many entrepreneurs that are like the world's best driver in a 15 year old Lada missing spare parts and with diesel in a petrol engine... they make it work, but they are fighting a losing battle. The best service anyone could do them is kill their business to free them to spend their massive energies on something for which there really is a market.

I love the lean startup concepts that are promoted by Steve Blank, Eric Ries among others.

How to tell if you have a good idea? http://www.conorneill.com/2011/05/how-to-tell-if-you-have-good-idea.html
